There are still a handful of people out there that are putting up with AOL. We are often asked what is so bad about AOL so here are five reasons:
1. The AOL browser is poor
The browser is what you use to look at websites and AOL basically uses a custom "skin" heavily branded version of Internet Explorer. It is designed to bombard you with layers of pop ups and advertising. The AOL proxy server makes the web browser behave differently than through a normal Internet connection. So once you have waded your way through all the annoying adverts you will see that images often look blurry as AOL compress them.
2. AOL email is unpredictable
The way that email folders are managed is quirky and confusing and the look and layout of email (particularly HTML email) is often messy and unpredictable. Although over the years there have been many unofficial attempts to get AOL email working with Microsoft Outlook it is safe to say that you can forget it. AOL themselves officially do not support it preferring you to use their quirky online browser based email system.
