Many folks I visit have followed good advice and got themselves Norton Antivirus or Norton Internet Security to protect their computer from the daily assaults of using the Internet.
However just having the software installed is not the whole story. You must keep it up to date.

What is Antivirus?
Think of your computer as a fortress. An Antivirus programme could be thought of as highly trained soldiers that have one main job that they do in two ways. Their main job is to identify 'uninvited troublemakers' and remove them from your fortress. They do this in two ways:
Firstly they stand at one of the main drawbridges into your fortress - email. They scan all incoming emails for any uninvited guests and depending on your settings alert you or just remove them from the email.
Secondly - just in case a new uninvited guest slipped through - they scan the complete fortress (all your files) usually once a week and remove them.
This is the important bit - The soldiers need regular training and updating on who is banned. Did you know that on average there are around 200 new viruses created every day? Many of the newer viruses are designed to stop the antivirus from working so even the older viruses can get in.
So doesn't it keep itself up to date? - Well to a certain extent it does automatically update what it can when you are connected to the Internet. However some of the updates are so complex that if they are installed your computer needs to shut down and restart. Now wouldn't that be annoying if it did that automatically?
Therefore you need to manually run LiveUpdate (the process of keeping Norton up to date) regularly - I do it every 3 or 4 days.
All you need to do is this:
1. Click on the
icon at the bottom right and select Open Norton Internet Security with a left click.
2. Wait a moment and the Norton Window will pop up.
3. Now click on the
button at the top (you must be connected to the Internet)
4. Follow the screens that pop up clicking Next until you click Finish. Sometimes after installing the update your computer will need to restart
5. IMPORTANT You should repeat the whole process again until you get the message that says that All of your Symantech products are up to date.
