What is Malware?

Beware sudden Alerts or Warnings when browsing websites

Sometimes when you browse to a website you may experience a sudden alert pop-up warning you that threats or viruses have been detected.  The pop up offers to fix this issue for you - However this is not a real threat and the program it installs gives you the illusion that it is protecting your computer from Spyware or Threats.

This trickery is commonly known as "Malware" or "Badware" and includes many variants of pretent programmes such as XP Antivirus 2008, Antivirus 2009, System Antivirus 2008, Ultimate Antivirus 2008, Vista Antivirus 2008Window Antivirus 7 etc...

No Antivirus programme can protect you from absolutely every new threat as they are created.

Please take note of the following for your guidance:

If you are browsing websites and a pop-up appears telling you you have threats or an infection - DO NOT follow any instruction to install any program.

Do Not Click Any buttons inside the window including buttons that say OK, Yes, No Thanks, Cancel, Close

If there is a cross at the top right just close it

If there is no cross to close it use the keyboard Shortcut to close the window - Whilst holding down the Alt key tap F4 - (Alt+F4) and do not return to that website.

Always use a good Antivirus Program (we recommend AVG) and ensure it is up to date.

Ensure you run Windows Update See www.windowsupdate.com
