Internet Explorer version 8 (ie8) has made some radical changes on how it displays websites
This has created a big headache for web designers and will take a long time for them to correct the layout problems ie8 causes
The problem has recently been compounded as ie8 has now been added to the Windows Automatic High Priority list. This means the troublesome ie8 is being automatically installed.
Here are instructions how to stop Internet Explorer 8 from installing with automatic updates.
In Windows XP automatic updates are indicated with a tiny yellow shield (bottom right)![]()
Click the shield and select the Custom Install option, then click Next

Now look at the tick list for Internet Explorer 8

Ensure you remove the tick against Internet Explorer 8 and click the Close button
A message will now pop up - Tick the box Don't notify me about these again

Finally click the OK button
