Internet Explorer 7 RSS Newsfeeds

What are RSS Newsfeeds?

RSS ('Really Simple Syndication') is a method that websites can offer to provide you a live up-to-date feed of articles like news or weather.  Look out on websites for a little symbol that might look something like this Easykey News for Home Users.

The idea is you can have one place where you can organise and gather your own collection of newsfeeds.  You could think of it being like your own customised changing daily newspaper that displays you headings and an introductory few words.

So where can I place the Newsfeeds on my computer?

There are many methods of reading news feeds on your computer and to a certain extent it will depend on what versions of programmes you have.  Here is just one method using Internet Explorer 7

Internet Explorer 7 Newsfeeds

To use this method you will need Microsoft's latest Internet explorer (The 'blue e with the golden halo)  Internet Explorer 7

1. Click here to go to the BBC News page for Beds, Herts and Bucks

2. Now look down the left hand side for orange Easykey News for Home Users icon and click it.

3. Look at the toolbar (top left) and click this icon and select subscribe to this feed.  (Just click the subscribe button in the screen that pops up)

4. Click the favorites icon and then the button.  You should see your Newsfeed for Beds, Herts and Bucks there which you can click on and browse the headlines.  Come back tomorrow and you will see the headlines have changed.

5. Using this technique you can gather feeds from many different websites all in one handy place e.g. Go to www.thepelhams.net and click the Easykey News for Home Users icon on the left.  Carry out step 3 again.  So now using step 4. you can quickly read the latest headlines from different websites with just a click.
