dot anythingThe Internet is facing one of its biggest revolutions.  Hundreds of new Top Level Domain names (TLDs) could be created by the end of the year, rising to thousands in the future.

Icann (the net's regulators) will vote today to decide if the strict rules on so-called Top Level Domain names can be relaxed.

Top level domains are currently limited to individual countries, such as .uk (UK) or .it (Italy), as well as to commerce, .com, and to institutional organisations, such as .net, or .org.

The revolution is that we could see the possibility to register .nyc (for New York)  .sport  .music  .bike  - just imagine the possibilities!  Certain sectors of the business warn that it could create chaos and whole new raft of expense for big businesses trying to protect their brand.
