Easykey POP Email Settings with BT Broadband

Symptom: You use BT broadband and you can receive email but you cannot send it

Inconveniently BT are randomly changing the SMTP (Sending Mail Transfer Protocol) settings for email.

Try the following settings to fix this issue:

  1. Open Outlook Express
  2. Go to Tools then Accounts
  3. Double Click your easykey email account
  4. Click on Servers Tab
  5. Change SMTP to the same as incoming POP e.g. mail.yourdomain.com
  6. Tick My Server Requires authentication
  7. Click Settings button and ensure Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected
  8. Click OK then OK then Close
  9. Close Outlook Express and re-open it to use

If this still does not work it may be that your Broadband service is subject to BTs new restrictive SMTP authentication.

What you have to do is log in to your BT Yahoo account and add your email address to the list of 'allowed' emails
